Finding Your Marbles, Now Ad-Free!
After many friendly suggestions, ok, complaints, I’ve decided to pull all advertising off Finding Your Marbles. I’m currently in the process of removing the ad code from the site, so please don’t mind the mess for the next couple of days.
I decided to pull the ads for two reasons: 1) they were really ugly, and 2) I have never been comfortable with them because I felt that they were violating the integrity of the site. I want FYM to be a resource that people suffering with mental illness can trust and rely on, and I was very concerned about the quality of some of the advertising. I didn’t feel that the ads were appropriate for my content and theme.
So, anyway, they are gone. Enjoy the new, cleaner, Finding Your Marbles.
PS: If you do spot a stray ad around the place, it probably means that I missed a line of code somewhere. If you could please drop me a line telling me where you found it, I would be very grateful.

I found you through Liz Strauss’s SOB’s - congrats. I am new to blogging and feeling resistant to ads seemingly as you do. It’s an understatement that they are ugly, but also they are very invasive and keeping as you said with the integrity of what your site is about I think it’s a great choice . Just today the bookshelf idea came to me and here you are with an example - that’s sychronicity !! I admire your courage to share your experiences so beautifully. I love the header. I love the marbles - it’s absolutely perfect.

I love synchronicity! I’m glad you like the layout. The site was designed by Mike Cherim, who is an incredible designer and a very nice guy as well.
I haven’t had any complaints that I have removed the ads, and I notice that now that they are gone, the site loads a lot faster.

How will you be making money with your blog…please tell?

Hi Nomad,
The short answer to that question is that I won’t be making money with my blog.
The long answer is that I am committing myself to a full-time writing career, and my blog will be playing a role in that. I originally wanted FYM to be a public service and I intended the ads to pay the hosting/development bills. However, I found that they really made a mess of things so I finally just removed them.

It’s a good ideea, but at a moment you will need to put them back, because this is the essence of a website, and Ads are the web oners the time ti create good content for it’s readers.
